Presence of Organic Impurities in Sand:- – For detecting the presence of Organic impurities in fine aggregate. Take a Sample of sand and add it in Sodium Hydroxide Solution, Stir the solution for few minutes, if the color of solution changes to brown, then the sand has organic impurities which are not suitable for construction.

How to determine the quality of sand?
How To Check Quality Of Sand In Field: – There are some useful tests that can be done in the field for checking the quality of sand used for construction. The following tests may be performed to determine the quality of sand. Field Test To Check Sand Quality: 1.
- Take a glass and add some water in it.2.
- Add a few amount of sand in the glass.
- At that point, shake it vivaciously and permit it to settle.
- If there is clay present in the sand, an apparent layer will be formed at the top level of sand.3.
- Mix the sand into sodium hydroxide or caustic soda solution to distinguish the presence of organic impurities.
If organic impurities are present in the sand, the color of the solution will be turned into brown.4. Now take a squeeze of sand and taste it. If it is salty that means salt is present in the sand.5. Take little amount of sand in the hand, and then rub it against the fingers. So in this way you can check the quality of sand before construction. Do you have any questions? What are the tests for sand at construction site?
🕑 Reading time: 1 minute There are different methods for testing of sand quality at construction site for concrete construction. Quality of sand is as much of importance as other materials for concrete. Aggregate most of which pass through 4.75 mm IS sieve is known as fine aggregate.
- Fine aggregate shall consists of natural sand, crushed stone sand, crushed gravel sand stone dust or arable dust, fly ash and broken brick (burnt clay).
- It shall be hard, durable, chemically inert, clean and free from adherent coatings, organic matter etc.
- And shall not contain any appreciable amount of clay balls or pellets and harmful impurities e.g.
iron pyrites, alkalis, salts, coal, mica, shale or similar laminated materials in such form or in such quantities as to cause corrosion of metal or affect adversely the strength, the durability or the appearance of mortar, plaster or concrete. The sum of the percentages of all deleterious material shall not exceed 5%.
Organic impurities test – this test is conducted at the field, for every 20 cum or part thereof. Silt content test – this is also a field test and to be conducted for every 20 cum. Particle size distribution – this test can be conducted at site or in laboratory for every 40 cum of sand. Bulking of sand – this test is conducted at site for every 20 cum of sand. Based on bulking of sand, suitable water cement ratio is calculated for concrete at site.
How to check the quality of sand for glass countertops?
Constructing a building is a responsible task and for robust, durable and stable building, it is necessary to use quality material i.e. concrete. While manufacturing ready mix concrete, sand is a very crucial material for the reason of being strong. It is a basic raw material immensely used in manufacturing concrete and construction sectors.
- It would be more effective if the sand is M Sand.
- More the use of M Sand, more the qualitative concrete is.
- For this reason, the particles of M sand should be durable, free from gritty particles and injurious particles like dust, a small piece of stones, a soft and flaky particles of shale, etc.
- For fine aggregate, the grain size should be 4.75mm.
Before using M sand for the construction purpose, the quality of the sand should be checked properly. The best quality of sand should not contain impurities, amalgamation and inferior raw material. But here the question arises, how to check the quality of M Sand.
To check the quality of the sand, rub the sample of sand on your wet palm. The best quality of sand will not stick on your hand whereas the sand with amalgamation will stick on the hand. ● The second method to check the quality of the sand is – take a glass of water and mix some quality of sand in it. Stir the mixture well and keep it aside for at least one hour. Now check the mixture, if the sand settles down in the glass it means the sand is completely clean but if it forms a distinct top layer or changes the watercolor then it clearly contains silt and clay particles. ● You can also taste a pinch of sand and if tastes salty, then the salt must be present in sand and hence it should not be used for construction purposes. ● The sand can be checked by visualization also. The size of the sand piece must be 4.75 mm and it should be free from organic impurities such as shell, shingles, etc. ● Above are the manual tests that can be done at the construction site only. But if you are not satisfied with this, then you can also do laboratory tests and such tests are recommended for big projects.
To be much worried about the constructive material is obvious. After all, building construction consumes a huge amount of economical cost. Stona Sand is the only place where you can find the best quality of M Sand, By producing M Sand, we feel proud to supply eco-friendly products for construction sectors which is an ideal alternative of natural sand and alongside saving our earth also.
