Types of Scaffolding – There are many types of scaffolding, each of which is suitable for different building and, Two of the most commonly used for masonry projects are single scaffolding and double scaffolding.
Single scaffolding. Single scaffolding is also referred to as bricklayer’s scaffolding since it is commonly used in brick masonry applications. It features a single row of standards (i.e., vertical elements that are fixed in the ground in a row parallel to the structure), which are used along with the wall to support the rest of the scaffolding elements (i.e., the ledgers, putlogs, and platforms).
Double scaffolding. Double scaffolding is also called mason’s scaffolding. It is frequently used for stone masonry applications. It features two rows of standards, which provides additional strength and stability while eliminating the need for putlogs to be fixed to the wall.

2. Double or mason’s scaffolding – In stone masonry, it is very difficult to provide holes m the wall to support putlogs. In that case, two rows of scaffolding are used more strongly. Each row thus forms a separate vertical framework. The first row and second row are placed at 20 to 30 cm and 1.2 to 1.5 m away from the wall respectively.

Double scaffolding
Double scaffolding is often referred to as ‘independent scaffolding’ and is mainly used for stone masonry construction projects. Considering that stone walls can’t support putlogs, double scaffolding offers the required sturdiness and robustness by placing two scaffoldings together.
Cantilever scaffolding
In Cantilever scaffolding, standards are supported on a series of needles that are taken out through holes in the wall. Due to its nature, the construction of cantilever scaffolding requires that numerous safety and precautionary checks are performed.
Suspended scaffolding
As its name suggests, suspended scaffolding works by suspending the working platform from the roof using rope or chains. Suspended scaffolding is used in many different types of construction projects, ranging from repair work to painting. The height of the platform can be adjusted at the desired level and can be raised or lowered accordingly.
Trestle scaffolding
In Trestle scaffolding, the working platform is supported on movable ladders or tripods. This type of scaffolding is primarily used for indoor construction projects, such as repairs or painting projects, as the maximum height of trestle scaffolding is 5 meters only.

Patented scaffolding
Although Patented scaffoldings are also made up of steel, this type of scaffolding is fitted with special frames and couplings. Patented scaffoldings are readymade – which means they are available to buy in-store and can be put into use as soon as bought. In a patented scaffolding, the working platform is set on the brackets, which can be adjusted to the required level accordingly.
Kwikstage scaffolding

3. Cantilever or needle – Cantilever or needle is used under the following circumstances: (i) Ground is weak to support standards. (ii) When the upper part of the wall is to be carried out. (iii) It is required to keep the space, near the wall, free for a walk and for traffic, etc.
- The scaffolding may be a single type (putlog scaffolding), as shown in fig.3.
- Or double type (independent scaffolding), as shown in Fig.4.
- In the former type, needles are projected from Opening or through holes in the wall to support the standards.
- In the second type, the needles are strutted inside the floors by making an opening.
